  • British Psychological Society 
    BPS members can access a huge range of resources, including the eleven BPS published journals
    Members can access these through PsychSource, a searchable gateway which also includes 32 other key psychology journals and multimedia resources. It also provides access to EBSCO Discovery Service and links to a multitude of other BPS resources which support research, teaching and practice.
  • Access to Research 
    Access to Research is a new scheme which gives public libraries across the UK free access to over 10 million academic articles. Publishers involved include SAGE Publications, Emerald, Wiley, Royal Society Journals and more

Open Access Journals

Open Access resources are freely available to everyone.

  • Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
    A database that can be searched by journal title or by individual article. All journals included are quality controlled through an editor, editorial board and/or a peer-review system.

  • Directory of Open Access Repositories (DOAR) 
    An authoritative directory of academic open access repositories.  DOAR features quality controlled databases and provides a description of the kinds of materials that can be accessed through each. You also search the contents of the repository for freely available academic research information.

  • OAIster
    The Oaister catalogue is part of WorldCat, and includes 25 million records representing digital resources. Resource types include: digitized (scanned) books, journal articles, newspapers, manuscripts and more, digital text, audio and video files, images, data sets (downloadable statistical information), theses and research papers.

  • Royal College of Psychiatrists Online  
    The British Journal of Psychiatry, BJPsych Bulletin and BJPsych Advances have been made searchable through the links on the RCPsych website. BJPsych International is not searchable but is every issue is available to download in PDF format. 
    RCPsych are launching an Open Access journal at some point during 2015 - check the BJPsych Open page for further information and to subscribe to the mailing list. 

  • JOPD 
    The Journal of Open Psychology Data (JOPD) features peer reviewed data papers describing psychology datasets with high reuse potential. The data and the papers are citable, and reuse is tracked.

  • Frontiers in Psychology    
    An open access peer-reviewed journal that aims to publish the best research across the entire field of psychology. It includes over 20 speciality sections, from cognition to neuroscience to psychopathology. 

  • Cambridge Journals Online 
    Some of the Cambridge University Press journals and articles are open access / available for free - these are shown by a green circle with a 'c' or an 'f' in the middle. 

  • BMJ Open 
    An online, open access journal, dedicated to publishing medical research from all disciplines and therapeutic areas. 

  • BMC Psychology 
    BMC Psychology is an open access, peer-reviewed journal that considers manuscripts on all aspects of psychology, human behavior and the mind, including developmental, clinical, cognitive, experimental, social, evolutionary and educational psychology, as well as personality and individual differences. 

  • APA - Archives of Scientific Psychology 
    The subject matter of articles published in Archives of Scientific Psychology spans the entire discipline of psychology, with articles on subjects ranging from neuroscience to political psychology, and all topics in between. The articles describe research conducted using a variety of different psychology research methods.

  • International Journal of Qualitative Methods (IJOM)  
    A peer reviewed, annual journal published by the International Institute for Qualitative Methodology at the University of Alberta, Canada, and its international affiliates. It aims to advance the development of qualitative methods and to disseminate methodological knowledge to the broadest possible community of academics, students, and professionals who undertake qualitative research.

  • Wiley Open Access 
    The OA journals offered from Wiley are mostly scientifically-orientated but some may be useful for psychological and psychiatric research, such as Brain and Behavior. 

  • Taylor & Francis Open Access
    As with Wiley, the content is generally scientific. Includes journals such as Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine, Statistics and Public Policy, and the International Journal of Adolescence and Youth. 

  • Scholarpedia
    Scholarpedia is a peer-reviewed open-access encyclopedia written by scholars from all around the world.
